A security breach at the Department of Motor Vehicles may have exposed millions of people's vehicle registration information in California.
The DMV said their vehicle registration records may have been involved in the security breach of a contractor used by the DMV.
Apparently there was no indication that information accessed by the ransomware attack has been used for nefarious reasons, but customers are urged to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.
The DMV said the registration records don't include social security numbers, however they do include names, addresses, license plate numbers and vehicle identification numbers.
The agency said it was contracting with a different address verification company on an emergency basis to make sure there were no impacts to customer service.
