Red to Blue: How Atlanta Rappers Helped Flip The White House

Politics and Atlanta’s entertainment scene have gone hand in hand since mayor Maynard Jackson's 1975 charity boxing match with Muhammed Ali, so it’s no surprise that in 2020 Atlanta’s entertainment community was able to come together to help flip the House from red to blue.

The Hip-Hop community continues to fight as they work to turn the Senate blue during next week’s Senate runoffs.

From voter registration drives, feeding poll workers, educating felons of their voting rights, to making a viral strip club song that encouraged voting, Hip-Hop leveled the playing field with politics in Atlanta.

Fewer than 13,000 people decided the presidential in Georgia, truly every vote mattered. Killer Mikes says there wasn’t one artist in Atlanta that didn’t contribute to the election in 2020.

"Turning the state blue went through the Blue Flame," Killer Mike said, referring to one of the city's famed adult clubs.
