Oakland to Reduce Speed Limits on nearly 60 Roads to Stop Fatal Car Deaths

Last year Governor Gavin Newsome signed Assembly Bill 43. This law allows cities to reduce speed limits by five miles per hour in business districts with heavy pedestrian and bicycle activity. Eligible blocks must have retail, commercial, dining or professional businesses like doctors or lawyers offices. The DOT has already chosen some road near downtown Oakland where popular events like 'First Fridays" take place. This hasn't begin to happen yet because the City Council has the final say so if any changes will take place.
