ASAP Ferg's New Song "Value" A Nod To His "Trap Lord" Debut

Over the night A$AP Ferg released his new song "Value" and the track is a triumphant reestablishment of Ferg's merciless flow.

"Value" sounds closer to the tracks off of his 2013 debut Trap Lord such as "Shabba" and "Let It Go." This could be in thanks to Ferg's reunion with producer HighDefRazjah who has produced and co-written his songs "Nia Long" and "Let It Go." And it seems the two are aware with a chorus that begins with "Who am I? (Trap Lord)."

Ferg's flow is aggressive and rhythmically adventurous, making him one of the only mainstream rappers today that can use repetition in a chorus without sounding uninspired. When Ferg is repeating a phrase, it's because he wants to drill it into your head.

Amidst the intense hardcore beat is an interesting embellishment that bears a strong resemblance to the "aw" that we hear in Nelly and Kelly Rowland's 2002 classic "Dilemma." It's unclear if the sound is actually lifted from that song but its familiarity pulls a lot of weight in making "Value" sound as lush as it does.

Whatever project A$AP Ferg has planned for 2020, I hope this wall-of-sound style will be at its core. It's what makes him stand out.
