New "Birds of Prey" Trailer Gives More Context

Warner Bros. Pictures has released the second official trailer to the upcoming film Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).

The Harley Quinn focused Suicide Squad spinoff was announced in May 2016 but was pitched by Margot Robbie, who plays Quinn, a year earlier. According to a Collider article back in 2018 Robbie said she, "pitched the idea of an R-rated girl gang film including Harley, because I was like, 'Harley needs friends.' Harley loves interacting with people, so don't ever make her do a standalone film."

Based on the new trailer, Robbie's vision was brought to fruition. Harley Quinn is joined by Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), and Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez) as they take on Gotham's latest villain Roman Sionis (Ewan McGregor). The film also features newcomer Ella Jay Basco as Sionis' target Cassandra "Cass" Cain.

It's clear Robbie has taken the time to understand her character on a personal level, which is always exciting especially when it comes to comic book characters. Hopefully that passion comes out in the film.

Birds of Prey hits theaters on February 7, 2020.
