Jennifer Hudson Becomes Aretha Franklin In First "Respect" Trailer

As we know, a biopic is an ambitious project. Especially when the subject is someone who is well known and universally beloved. You have to give people an in depth analysis of someone they thought they knew, as well as consider the legacy that the artist left behind.

The next musician's biopic to hit the big screen is Aretha Franklin. Respect has been in development for a long while and Franklin was actually involved with the casting and story telling until she passed in August of 2018. The legendary singer hand picked Jennifer Hudson to portray her and the rest of the cast is just as impressive with names like Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Audra McDonald, Tituss Burgess, and Mary J. Blige.

Other than a few photos from the set, this is our first look at the film. According to MGM's description, "Following the rise of Aretha Franklin's career from a child singing in her father's church's choir to her international superstardom, Respect is the remarkable true story of the music icon's journey to find her voice."

Check out the teaser trailer below. Respect hits theaters October 2020.
