The "Most-Consumed" Songs Of 2019

We are only a few weeks away from the end of the year and publications have started to saturate the internet with their round ups and Best Of 2019 lists. People are flooding feeds with their Spotify Wrapped stats, revealing what artists and songs defined their year.

This yearly tradition is equal parts fun and unsettling. Fun because sharing music with others will always spark joy and unsettling because it's a very tangible reminder of the passage of time and in a way I can't quite explain yet, it feels like we're all reading each other our wills. Any-who, let's dwell on the fun.

Today Variety released a chart of the most-consumed songs of 2019 and it's an interesting reflection on today's mainstream music industry. The song that reigned supreme was of course "Old Town Road" by Lil Nas X. He's followed by two Post Malone songs, "Sunflower" and "Wow," with "7 Rings" and "Bad Guy" rounding out the top five.

Perhaps less obviously, J. Cole's "Middle Child" made it to number 6 and Meek Mills' "Going Bad" featuring Drake made it to the top ten landing at number 9. Those are two songs I wouldn't have thought of if I were asked to list songs of 2019.

This list is especially interesting because it's all numbers. It shows that sometimes what we're talking about isn't necessarily isn't what we're listening to.

Check out the full list here.
