Oakland Now Has Its Own Comic Book Themed Bar

"With great cocktails comes great responsibility..." Bay Area comic book fans are in for a treat with the opening of Oakland's First Edition. The new bar, which opened on November 1st, is comic book themed but not necessarily in the way that you'd first expect. The theme's focus is on comic book villains instead of the superheroes. Co-owner Cory Hunt told San Francisco Chronicle that they decided to go a bit darker with their theme.

From the photos available on their Instagram and Yelp page, First Edition looks like a more sophisticated take on the comic book world. For example, their main light fixtures are shaped like speech bubbles and a few of their walls are covered with huge comic panels. And of course their drink menu is formatted as a comic book. For $12 you can get themed cocktails like the "N.E.W. GOTHAM" and "THRILLMONGER."

First edition is located on 1915 Broadway, making it a must for First Fridays, and is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 5:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. We can't wait to check it out!
