It's no surprise that the Bay Area breeds a lot of talented artists from musicians to actors and directors.
One of those talents is Oscar winner Mahershala Ali, who is from Oakland, and started out as a rapper under the name of Prince Ali!
Distortion 2 Static, otherwise known in the bay as D2S, released a throwback interview with Ali, when he had released his second album in 2008. Ali goes into his music, the meaning behind his albums name, his sound, and much more.
Ali has since has been on the rise with his acting career. Winning an Oscar in 2017 for Best Supporting Actor for his work in Moonlight, and he is currently nominated for the same category for his portrayal of Dr. Don Shirley in the film Green Book.
You can also catch Marhershala on the new season of True Detective as Detective Wayne Hays.
