Barack and Michelle Obama remember Aretha Franklin

On Thursday morning it was announced that musical legend, icon, and the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin passed away at the age 76 due to pancreatic cancer in her home in Detroit. 

Barack and Michelle Obama sent out a special message remembering the late singer saying, "Aretha helped define the American experience. In her voice, we could feel our history, all of it and in every shade..." Michelle Obama went on to say, " Watching Aretha Franklin perform at the White House, and on so many other occasions, made time stand still... She will forever be our Queen of Soul." 

Aretha Franklin had many memorable moments with the Obama's including singing "My Country, 'Tis of Thee" at Barack Obama's historic inauguration in 2009.
