LaRussell took the lunch with JAY-Z, and now he's officially signed to Roc Nation.

The Bay Area native confirmed the good news during his interview with The Breakfast Club on Wednesday, February 4. LaRussell was in the building to talk about his campaign to sell 100,000 copies of his upcoming album Something's In The Water. During the conversation, the crew brought up his recent dinner meeting with JAY-Z. DJ Envy asked LaRussell if he planned to sign with Roc Nation. The independent artist famously turned down a deal with the label three years ago, but now he's had a change of heart.

"I'm officially signed to Roc Nation," LaRussell announced. "It means I now have support beyond just my homies and somebody who truly believes in what I'm doing, who's already done what I've done to show me the path."

"I've gotten to the point of so much success independently where I'm from that I've lost my guides. I've surpassed aa lot of people who did what I've done. We've been doing this with no blueprint, no map, no route. I'm the first in my family to ever perform at the Super Bowl and curate a house band — all of this is a first. And Hov has been here and done it so it just gives us a different level of infrastructure."

LaRussell has been an independent artist for his entire career. He's dropped a plethora of albums over the past two decades, and fully funded everything via his indie label Good Compenny. LaRussell said he's still considered independent and owns all his masters. However, his deal with Roc Nation will help elevate his music to a whole new level.

You can watch LaRussell's entire interview on Netflix. For now, catch his new freestyle and watch the moment when he met JAY-Z below.
