Opening Statements Given In The Trial of the Murderers of Ahmaud Arbery

Attorneys for both the prosecution and the defense in the murder trial of Ahmaud Arbery gave their opening statements to the jury comprised of 11 white and 1 black member. They were painted pictures of fatal violence against an innocent young man and from the defense the three men on trial were simply looking to protect their neighborhood from a man they called a 'scary mystery'. Ahmaud Arbery's family continues to fight for justice despite the grotesque characterization the defense made in their opening arguments. Ahmaud's mother was reportedly heard sobbing in the courtroom when the graphic and inhumane video of his murder was shown in the courtroom. This is just the heart wrenching beginning of what is sure to be an extremely emotional trial that is already being contested since the makeup of the jury is skewed.
