This family says their son has a disability and cannot speak properly while masked. They have decided to sue the school district after their son was sent to the office for not wearing a mask during Summer classes.

According to NBC Bay Area:
The lawsuit claims the school district said it would make mask exemptions on a case by case basis due to health reasons, but the district, according to the Palo Alto Weekly, says it found the student was removed from the special education program back in 2018 and no longer needed speech language therapy.

Palo Alto Unified School District Superintendent, Don Austin, released a statement regarding the lawsuit. He said that the family has had several issues with masks in the past and the have refused to work towards a solution with staff. Austin also claims that the school district is simply abiding by state rules and regulations.
