Student debt is a huge stress for many people throughout the country. It is staggering to think how many people are being faced with student debt and having to manage it while maintaining their day to day costs. Imagine being able to graduate debt free! That walk across the stage or that drive thru commencement would be that much better knowing you didn't owe the school you're graduating from ANY money. Well that's the reality for Class of 2021 Grads from Contra Costa College. Over 60 students in the graduating class received an email recently that could have been mistaken for spam, but in reality it was a communication letting them know that they are now debt free. The school decided to forgive these debts because they know how tough things have been for students. Some of the debts were as low as $100, but because these students are mostly low income, even these small amounts can make a huge difference. Some students were so grateful they expressed their gratitude with email replies, saying they could now get groceries or even pay rent simply because of this debt forgiveness. Congrats class of 2021 and shouts to the other Bay Area Colleges hoping to be able to join this program and do the same for their students to be able to provide them some much needed relief!
