Celebrate Asian Pacific Heritage Month With In Person + Virtual Events

Video Footage from the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month Kick Off Celebration

May brings flowers, Spring temps, Mother's Day, Mental Health Awareness Month and timely enough, there is also an important celebration just barely getting kicked off that seems to encompass all of this as well as opportunities for in-person and virtual celebrations of culture, art and ways to stay active against Asian Hate. It's officially Asian Pacific American Heritage Month- and the Bay Area is filled with pride and excitement as the festivities get kicked off! Maybe you're looking for the next great film or documentary - you can find an array of creativity and award worthy works at the upcoming CAAMFest, an annual event from the Center for Asian American Media. Or maybe you want to learn more about historical events, see some art or soak up some beats and lyrics- well there are museum exhibits, commemorative events and talks, as well as events with live music- all of which you can participate in, in some instances, in person with Covid Safety as first priority or virtually. With all the recent events and call for the Stop of Asian Hate, there are a number of ways you can educate yourself on ways to support the uplifting of the Asian Community as well as how to be an ally instead of perpetuating the issue. So get ready for an immersion into Asian Pacific American heritage and culture! Dive in and check out some local events and places to join in this annual occasion!

Oakland Library has also kicked off their APA Heritage Month Celebration - they have events happening Saturdays throughout the month.
