Richmond police said that they have arrested the suspect who allegedly fatally shot a woman in front of her children on Tuesday.

A $2 million warrant had been issued for the arrest of Lawyer Dushan McBride, 43, of San Pablo, the estranged boyfriend of the victim Rashanda Franklin, 29, of Richmond, according to police.

Franklin was found after officers responded around 8:45 a.m. to the area of 29th Street and Rheem Avenue, where they found her in a car with a gunshot wound to the chest. Her two boys under 10 years old were also inside, police said.

Investigators identified McBride as the shooting suspect based on witness descriptions and surveillance footage and determined he fled in a silver 2007 Mercedes-Benz S550.Around 1 p.m. today, Richmond detectives along with a U.S. Marshals Service task force arrested McBride in Sacramento and the Mercedes was also impounded for evidence, police said.

The shooting occurred while Franklin had been on her way to drop the children off at a daycare facility, police Lt. Felix Tan said. She realized McBride was in the area and tried to escape, but he followed her and then drove ahead of her, blocking her path, Tan said.

McBride then got out of his car, walked up to Franklin and argued with her for a few seconds before shooting her, according to Tan.

The children were not injured in the shooting and are with family members, he said.
