Several Bay Area counties are set to announce a major update to the region's mask mandate later this week.

Health officials are discussing a certain criteria that each county must meet in order to lift the mask mandate, including "local case rates, hospitalizations and vaccination rates," according to the San Francisco Chronicle. San Francisco, Napa, Sonoma, Marin, San Mateo, Contra Costa and Santa Clara Counties are all part of this discussion.

San Francisco Mayor London Breed is hopeful that easing up on mask mandates will encourage people to return to the office, saying “I respect and follow the advice of my public health experts, but I think that especially in light of so many people being vaccinated and the decline in the numbers, I think that it’s appropriate and we’ll see what happens."

Currently, every county in the Bay Area has some kind of indoor mask mandate in place.
