VRBO, a popular home rental company, is reportedly not giving refunds to those being affected by the Caldor Fire and instead leaving the decision up to property owners.

SF GATE reports on two incidents:

  • In an attempt to cancel his trip, one person had to make several calls to VRBO and the host in order to get his money back. The owner of the home he was supposed to rent was encouraging him to come anyways, despite everything going on in the area. With no luck from VRBO and leniency from the owner, he got his money back after complaining to his credit card provider.
  • Another person was planning to visit from out of state and had received no help from VRBO to get his refund back. However, he received a refund from the owner after some effort.
