Coming back to the Bay, Yo Gotti stops by the iHeart RADIO Lounge in San Francisco during his tour stop to give fans an exclusive performance and an in-depth interview with 106 KMEL’s lovely Shay Diddy about his music, life, and love for the Bay.
The Memphis native is currently on a promotional tour for his sophomore album ‘I Am,’ which is slated to release on November 19th via his label CMG and Epic Records. Calling it his “best work to date,” the album boasts features from the likes of Young Jeezy and YG on “Act Right”; Ne-Yo and Wale on “Respect That You Earn”; T.I. on “King Sh—“; J.Cole on “Cold Blood”; Meek Mill on “F-U” and Rich Homie Quan on “I Know."
Dishing on the first single “Act Right,” Gotti shares how he originally teamed up with Young California’s own HBK P-Lo on the beat, and also reveals that IamSu was one of the first to be considered to be part of the track. Additionally, he explains the concept behind the video for the single, and how adamant he was about making sure the video paid proper homage to the Bay Area and to the legend Mac Dre.
Aside from high-energy tracks like “Act Right” and “King Sh—,” Gotti wants fans to hear his growth on the new album, from lyrics to beat selection to delivery. Having been in the game for over a decade, the southern rapper has managed to find the sound that works best for him – which he describes as being “turnt (up) while still keeping it real life music."
Gotti also touches on the controversy with former friend, Gucci Mane, over video vixen, Keyshia Dior (now known as Keyshia Ka’oir), both of who he no longer speaks to. “I don’t have a relationship with [Gucci]. Where I’m from, you cross a line, you stay there. You should think before you speak,” he says.
Other topics from the interview include fatherhood, the CMG and Epic partnership, Twitter beefs, dating, and his overall evolution as an all-around artist and businessman.
‘I Am’ will officially be in stores and available on iTunes on November 19th. Be sure you act right and pre-order your copy now!
